July 13, 2021 – Researchers from the University of Maryland’s Baidu Research Robotics and Auto-Driving Lab (RAL) have introduced an autonomous excavator system (AES), one of the first uncrewed projects to be deployed in real-world scenarios and continuously operating for more than 24 hours. According to Baidu, the AES can perform material loading tasks for a long duration without any human intervention, and its performance is “closely equivalent” to an experienced human operator’s.
